Tree Removal

Unfortunately, trees need to be removed when they become too large for the space they are in or they become a safety concern due to storms, disease or other issues that are detrimental to the trees state.

Our team will cut trees down safely from the ground using directional felling cuts whenever there is room for them to fall. More often than not though, there are objects in the way such as buildings, greenhouses and other trees, shrubs etc. In this case the tree will be climbed and rigged down safely using a series of ropes, pulleys and friction devices.

We will however, if appropriate, always suggest any possible alternatives to complete removal.

Crown Reduction / Crown Lift

A crown reduction is required when the tree needs to be reduced in size, or needs to be reshaped or balanced due to a section breaking in a storm or other such damage.

A good reduction will not leave a tree looking  stubby or 'topped'. Cuts should be made to suitable replacement growth points leaving a natural looking crown.

There are a few exceptions however, most conifers do not re-grow from cuts, so can only really be reduced in height, not width. Some trees may also need to be reduced harder if there is major damage, or in order to reduce the weight of an over extended limb. All work carried out to British Standard BS3998.

Deadwood and Thinning

We offer a deadwood removal service to prevent falling debris, ensuring areas below are kept safe.

Deadwood is brittle, and can snap off in the wind posing a risk to passers-by and surrounding properties. And although a natural process, deadwood can have a detrimental effect to the tree. It provides a perfect home for fungus and other organisms allowing them to build up and attack the tree. Removing majour deadwood can help maximise the trees lifespan.

Pollarding / Coppicing

Pollarding is an ancient form of tree management, also very popular in france. All branches are removed and just the main wood of the tree is left. We will remove every branch, leaving the just the main limbs, we sometimes go all the way back,  leaving just the trunk as a single stem. The tree will re-grow. You may recognise this practise on willow and lime trees, but its used for many reasons. Depending on the species it is sometimes better to pollard than it would be to give the tree a reduction. Its also a great way of retaining a tree that might otherwise be compromised. Some trees respond better than others, we will advise on the best course of action for your tree. Coppicing is the same but the tree is cut much closer to the ground. Once a tree is pollarded, it should be re-pollarded every 3 to 5 years.

Hedge Cutting

A well cut hedge is a thing of beauty! It also helps with growth and leaf quality.

We can cut any size hedge safely, quickly and cost-effectively.

Tree Planting

We can source and plant new trees. We suggest trees that are removed due to their size or condition are replaced if possible. We can offer advice and suggest which species might be good for your garden.

Tree Stump and Waste Removal

All of the branches or 'brushwood' will be put through a woodchipper and can be taken away or tipped somewhere in your garden or drive, you may find it useful to prevent weeds on beds or for making paths, it can also be stored for mulch further down the line. We can also cut the wood in to rings suitible for splitting if you would like to keep it for firewood or it can also be taken away.

As for the stumps, we can remove them using a stump grinder down to around a foot below ground level. In some cases, where stumps are too close to walls, paving stones and services such as power or drains, it may not be possible to remove the entire stump.
